02 时态与体:作者如何放置和观察事件

时态主要定位时间,体则选择观察事件的方式。`worked`, `was working`, `has worked` 不只是三个时间标签,而是三种不同的信息组织。

本章研究的问题

为什么现在完成时不能简单等于“过去发生”?为什么过去进行时常用于背景?我们要把事件时间、参照时间和说话时间分开。

核心原理

  • 一般体把事件作为整体、习惯或规律呈现。
  • 进行体从事件内部观察,突出持续性、暂时性或尚未封闭的过程。
  • 完成体把较早事件与一个较晚参照点连接,强调当前相关性或先后关系。
  • 时态选择受篇章视角制约,不由单个时间副词机械决定。
  • 状态动词通常不取进行体,但在意义转为暂时行为时可以出现。

一般过去时把研究作为已完成的整体事件陈述。

For many years, economists treated household decisions as if each household had a single preference. More recent work has challenged that assumption. Researchers are now examining how bargaining power within families changes spending patterns, and several studies have already shown that income controlled by different family members may be used differently. The field has therefore moved from a unitary model toward models that represent internal negotiation.

段落从过去惯例 treated 转向已影响现在的研究变化 has challenged,再进入当前过程 are examining 和已获得的结果 have shown。时体序列本身构成“旧模型—转变—当前方向”的论证。

Researchers have long assumed that remote collaboration reduces informal learning, but the evidence has become less straightforward as teams have adopted persistent chat, shared documents, and recorded meetings. In one longitudinal study, junior employees reported that they had received fewer spontaneous explanations during their first months online, while managers argued that written exchanges had made some forms of feedback more visible than they had been in the office. The important question, therefore, is not simply whether remote work lowered learning, but which kinds of learning had already depended on physical proximity and which kinds were being redistributed across digital records.

不要先问“该用哪种时态”,而要问作者选了哪个参照点,并把事件看作整体、过程还是与后来状态相连的先行事件。
